Hard lumps
can be many different things. The most common superficial lump in the
skin of Pekenese is the sebaceous cyst. Much can be done before
considering anesthesia, surgery and biopsy. You may ask your doctor to
perform a fine needle aspirate of the lumps. This is done without
sedation or anesthesia. The aspirate can be visually evaluated in the
syringe. Lipomas, seromas, hematomas and cysts have distinctive
appearances, and can be identified without laboratory analyses. In the
case of tumors, the aspirated sample can be placed on a slide and
submitted to the laboratory for cytological evaluation.
